On February 24, 2022, we held our 46th statutory General Assembly devoted to the review of the activity during the year 2021, and the vote of the budget for the year 2022 by video conference, by postponing the scientific component – which is one of the highlights.
The 44th General Assembly, held in Libreville in February 2020, was the last one before the Covid 19 pandemic, during which we shared our experiences and knowledge on the issues and challenges of our industry.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

Dear Colleagues, Members of FANAF,

Dear Delegates,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On February 24, 2022, we held our 46 th statutory General Assembly devoted to the review of the activity during the year 2021, and the vote of the budget for the year 2022 by video conference, by postponing the scientific component – which is one of the highlights.

The 44th General Assembly, held in Libreville in February 2020, was the last one before the Covid 19 pandemic, during which we shared our experiences and knowledge on the issues and challenges of our industry.

Of course, the management of the pandemic has improved, but we did not have the necessary perspective, at the time of the decision with the host market, to organize in February 2022 our General Assembly, including the scientific component and allowing us to exchange on the current events and the changes that may have a direct or indirect impact on our ecosystem.

Today, still in agreement with the Senegalese market, we have planned to carry out in hybrid mode (in person and in videoconference simultaneously) the traditional scientific component of our meeting from May 23 to 25, 2022 in Dakar.

The central theme selected for this meeting is: “Systemic risks: Insurance and Resilience ».

This theme will also integrate market and financial risks. The following sub-themes are planned:

  • Challenges of regulation and regulation in the face of systemic risks;
  • Digital issues in the era of systemic risks;
  • The new perimeters of Risk Management, Consulting and Insurance in the face of risks

Exposure to catastrophic risks of a climatic and pandemic nature, cyber-risks…, without forgetting the reinforcement of standardization and regulation which place regulatory risk among the most critical categories that weigh on organizations.

It is necessary to rethink the redefinition of the insurance and reinsurance business as well as related businesses, in order to reinforce the current and future resilience of these organizations.

The development of the selected themes will have to lay the foundations for a good understanding and awareness on:

  • -The identification and typology of systemic risks, current and emerging, as well as their mechanisms and factors of propagation, the areas of exposure in Africa if necessary, their impact on the insurance and reinsurance sector;
  • -The presentation of existing or planned mechanisms, strategies, action plans and business models at the global, state and sectoral levels, including insurance, to anticipate, assess, manage, finance and cover systemic risks;
  • -The challenges of regulation and supervision of insurance companies to protect them, like insurers in more mature markets, from these systemic risks;
  • -The role of insurance company executives in the prevention of systemic risks and the implementation of appropriate governance structures;
  • -The mission of professional associations in the implementation of self-regulation and surveillance mechanisms for the sector as well as the promotion of a global and multisectoral approach to these risks at the national and regional levels;
  • -The contribution that insurers can make to the immediate and future resilience of their partners and to the identification, dissemination and implementation of good practices.

I invite you to register in large numbers to renew this tradition of exchange of experiences that contribute to the improvement of each of us and therefore to the development of our industry.

First of all, I would like to warmly thank the FANAF Board for the consolidation of the achievements, then for the quality work, without respite, done since its installation at the head of our Federation.

Also, allow me in the same dynamics to express my deep gratitude to the General Assembly for the choice of Dakar for the organization of the 46th General Assembly of the federation.

Ten years later, Senegal will have the privilege to host again this great event of the Insurance, Reinsurance and Finance sector.

No doubt we owe this choice to your kindness, or certainly to the many assets of this lively and vibrant city, as a Head of State once said, lulled by the charms of Dakar. But also, to our great happiness, to our legendary Teranga, our acute sense of hospitality, which has been known around the world.

Can I also imagine that each of you has the kindness to come and celebrate the Lions of Teranga for their victory in the last African Cup of Nations?

This General Assembly, in its scientific component and under the leadership of eminent experts, will address the theme “Systemic Risks: Insurance and Resilience”.

This is an opportunity for me to launch an appeal to the actors of Insurance, Reinsurance and Finance for a massive participation, in person or virtually, in this international meeting of Insurance and Reinsurance.

Wishing you excellent work and a pleasant stay among us, I would like to thank you in advance and express my full dedication.
